You have these huge stands

their ability to bowl yorkers at the death saved them 30 runs in the final four
overs that was a turning point in USAs four-wicket loss on Wednesday at WCL
Division Four. Dassanayake believes it is something USA must learn from when
preparing to take on good teams in tournament play. The major difference is that
our bowlers didnt bowl well and especially the main bowlers, our spinners,
Dassanayake said. It was a decent batting track but defending 260 I would never
doubt it but we bowled pretty badly. Having said that, Denmark bowled really
well at the end. Almost every ball was a yorker and they defended about 30 runs
in that period because of the way that they bowled. A lot of credit to them but
its and eye-opener for our bowling department and at the death overs how were
going to handle it if that situation comes again. One area to come under scrutiny
is not just USAs poor bowling performance but the bowling strategy itself. USA
captain Steven Taylor pulled specialist left-arm spinner Danial Ahmed from the
attack after just one over for nine runs and didnt use him for the rest of the
game, the second time Taylor has done so in the tournament and instead opted to
use himself and Alex Amsterdam to fill out those overs with part-time offspin.
Taylor finished with 3 for 46 in ten overs while Amsterdam took 0 for 32 in
seven.Ahmed bowled a superb spell of 0 for 29 in ten overs a day earlier against
Oman and though he is wicketless so far in the tournament, he has had numerous
chances put down off his bowling. Ahmeds overall economy rate for the tournament
is 4.27 and Dassayanake says he has confidence in Ahmed heading into the Jersey
match.I havent thought about any changes yet for Friday, Dassanayake said. We
know Danials capability. Against Oman the way he bowled ten overs really
contributed a lot to win that game. We have to keep building confidence in him.
Well meet and see our best combination for Friday and come back with it. The
things I have with the reserves, Jessy and Prashanth as bowlers, there are lots
of options for me to select. Im not blaming Danial, especially I dont think
anyone can blame him today because he only bowled one over. Its just about
giving that confidence to him and come back hard on Friday. However, Dassanayake
didnt rule out other potential changes. Ali Khan has been bowling the last two
games with a hamstring strain while Ravi Timbawala has been troubled since the
first match of the tournament with a right thumb injury. Jessy Singh bowled well
in the first two games of the tournament for USA before making way for Khan
while hard-hitting Abdullah Syed is waiting to make his debut as a batting
reserve. We have to look into our injuries, Dassanayake said. Ravi is struggling
with his thumb. Ali from the beginning had the hamstring injury but slowly he is
getting better. There are a few other niggles. Still again we will assess all
the injuries and see who is the best XI available for Friday.Dassanayake remains
bullish on USAs chances of promotion despite the loss to Denmark. USA sits at
3-1 in a three-way tie for first place with Oman and Denmark, though USA has by
far the best net run rate, which is the tournament tiebreaker. USA comes up
against Jersey on Friday at Wong Cricket Field, a team currently 1-3 in the
tournament whose only victory so far has come against winless Italy. A win for
USA will clinch promotion to Division Three and set up a potential rematch in
the final against Denmark, who take on Oman in a virtual semi-final at Severn
Cricket Field. When you lose its tough to take but still I am comfortable to say
that USA is the best team in this league, Dassanayake said. Its just one bad
session we had in the evening. With my experience in World Cricket League, it
always happens in these tournaments at this level. Its all about how we come
back hard on the next day. Everybody has to stay cool and come back and do their
best on Friday and Im pretty confident what were going to do. No one is
panicking in our group. We have lots of confidence to get through this
tournament. It was just a bad half day.

YORK -- Fredi Gonzalez thought his Atlanta Braves would have the advantage going
into the bottom of the eighth inning with the rain coming down and a gusty wind
blowing. The manager is not so sure now. Evan Gattis had a two-run, pinch-hit
single in the top of the eighth, then the Mets rallied to tie it in a downpour
in the bottom half before the game between Atlanta and New York was suspended
with the score 5-5 Friday night. The teams will resume play with none out in the
top of the ninth inning on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. The regularly scheduled game is
set to start 7:15 p.m. "I thought it would benefit us as we had the lead,"
Gonzalez said. "One guys trying to throw a wet ball and the other guy is trying
to hit it with all the rain in their face. You just dont know." With rain
starting to fall heavily, Gattis put Atlanta up 5-3 with a bases-loaded single
off Greg Burke. The Mets tied it in a wet and wild bottom half, taking advantage
of centre fielder B.J. Uptons error on Daniel Murphys RBI single and scoring on
a wild pitch by Anthony Varvaro. The game was suspended after a 75-minute delay,
the second of the night. There was a 16-minute wait at the start. Varvaro could
be seen struggling to get a good grip on the ball throughout the inning,
repeatedly rubbing his hand on his jersey and pants. Catcher Brian McCann even
visited Varvaro to calm him down. Gonzalez is not sure how hell use his bullpen
for the completion of the first suspended game in Mets history. "I could even
run Varvaro back out there," Gonzalez said. "Its like going back-to-back days."
Mets manager Terry Collins will definitely use a reliever, not his Saturday
starter, Dillon Gee. "Im going to start the game with a relief pitcher," Collins
said. "Otherwise, if the things over in 10 minutes, the guys already warmed up,
now he has to sit for an hour. Thats not what I want to happen." The tarp was
brought out after Rick Ankiel struck out to end the eighth. The Braves were
trying for their seventh straight win -- they swept two home series -- but only
a second win in seven road games. The Mets were swept by Cincinnati in a
three-game series at Citi Field. They entered Friday 0-9 in games following a
start by young star Matt Harvey. New York led 3-2 behind the impressive pitching
of Jeremy Hefner for six innings, but LaTroy Hawkins gave up a homer to
Dan Uggla leading off the seventh to tie it. It was Ugglas fourth hit in 38
at-batts.dddddddddddd Hefner gave up a two-run homer to Freddie Freeman in the
first then was sharp the rest of his outing, giving up three hits and two walks.
He struck out seven. But Ugglas homer ensured he would remain winless in his
nine starts. Braves starter Kris Medlen allowed three runs and seven hits in six
innings. He struck out nine, but yielded a homer leading off the fourth to
John Buck that tied it 2-all. "You have these huge stands in front of you and
you still feel the wind," Medlen said of the conditions. "It was a crazy, crazy
night." Justin Upton was walked by Scott Rice with one out in the eighth and
advanced to third on Freemans single. Rice struck out McCann for the second out
and was replaced by Greg Burke. Uggla walked to load the bases for Gattis. The
rookie with a made-for-Hollywood story came to the plate having hit three homers
-- two as a pinch-hitter -- in his last six at-bats, including a grand slam on
Wednesday. As a heavy rain started to fall, he worked the count to 1-2 before
lining a single up the middle. "Its almost better," Gonzalez said of using
Gattis as a pinch-hitter as opposed to starting him. "You can plug him in where
you want to." Struggling in the conditions, Varvaro walked Buck then struck out
Ike Davis -- his fourth strikeout of the night -- and pinch-hitter
Jordany Valdespin before Ruben Tejada singled. Murphy, who had three hits for
his second straight game, hit a soft line drive to centre field that hit off
Uptons glove as he came in on it and Buck scored. Tejada was able to race to
third base when B.J. Upton struggled picking up the ball. Varvaro bounced the
first pitch to Ankiel and it scooted to the left of catcher Buck allowing Tejada
to score and tie it 5-all. New York last scored more than four runs at home on
April 24, a 7-3 win in 10 innings over the Dodgers. NOTES: Marlon Byrd had an
