rookie to rush for at least 130

导出博客文章TORONTO -- Eric Lindros carved an unprecedented path to hockey stardom,
including where the incoming Hall of Famer lived when he entered the NHL.It was
about a month into Lindros rookie season with the Philadelphia Flyers that the
prodigy asked to move in with veteran teammate Kevin Dineen and his newlywed
wife, Annie. And I was like, `Ah, let me go home and talk to my wife about that,
Dineen recalled almost 25 years later.Lindros had already bought a townhouse
with everything you could ever want, but he was also a teenager in an
unforgiving American city. Dineen figures he was probably a little bit lonely. So
Lindros spent two years in the Dineens home, flush with dogs and a growing,
makeshift family. The unlikely unit ate breakfast and dinner together, and
sometimes Lindros and Dineen sneaked into classes at the University of
Pennsylvania, where Annie was working toward her masters degree. It was funny in
a lot of ways, Dineen said. It was like having a little brother who was much
bigger than you. Finally entering the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside Rogie Vachon,
Sergei Makarov and the late Pat Quinn, Lindros had an incomparable career on and
off the ice. He was a maverick in a sport of rigid rules and a talent on the ice
not seen before or since. He was probably the most dominant player during his
time in the NHL, longtime teammate Rod BrindAmour said.At 6-foot-4 and more than
200 pounds, Lindros was like a freight train on skates, but with the agility and
skills to move like a race car.BrindAmour still remembers hopelessly trying to
defend Lindros at his first practice with the Flyers in 1992. Lindros had one
hand on his stick as he rushed down the wing but still somehow whipped a wrist
shot into the top corner. And Im like, nobody can do that in the NHL, BrindAmour
said. And of course, if he wanted to run you over, he could run you through the
boards. And then if you wanted to fight, he could fight. There was just nothing
that he couldnt really do. And that was impressive because there wasnt really
anyone in the NHL that could do everything.Dineen believes Lindros should be
remembered as a progressive force. The hockey world could have its opinions, but
Lindros stood by his best interests. He gets painted a little bit with the ugly
brush because of the stands he took, said Dineen, now a Chicago Blackhawks
assistant coach.Lindros twice refused to play for the team that drafted him No.
1 overall. He famously spurned the NHLs Quebec Nordiques in 1991, later saying
he didnt want to play for owner Marcel Aubut, and that came two years after he
declined to play for Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League -- the club
eventually to traded him to Oshawa.Lindros sat out the 2000-01 season waiting
for a trade out of Philadelphia following a bitter public spat with general
manager Bobby Clarke regarding the treatment of Lindros injuries, including
multiple concussions. Compare that to the handling of current stars like Sidney
Crosby, whose concussions have been handled by the Penguins with caution. Its not
like youre looking to go upstream, Lindros said. The choices that I made were
choices that other people had done before me. It wasnt like it was fresh
territory.Perhaps not on a case-by-case basis, but the entirety of Lindros
off-ice drama is unprecedented among NHL superstars. And still, his career will
be defined as much by what it wasnt as what it was.Injuries limited him to fewer
than 800 regular season games and retirement at age 34. He has some of the
finest seasons ever in the league on his resume, but no longevity to go with it.
And of course, Lindros also lacks a precious Stanley Cup title. What could his
career have been with good health? BrindAmour thinks Lindros brute, physical
style likely would have degraded his productivity with time.Regardless, the
powerful Lindros made a dent on the sport. His dominance and distinctiveness
cant be denied.Hes one in a lifetime, BrindAmour said. I dont know if youll ever
see a player like him because the games changed so much now. The physical part
of the game is kind of out the door. No kids growing up are trying to be like
that. Its all skill and skating, so I dont know that youre going to see that
    kind of player again.

Vaughan, Ont. GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Rookie Dak Prescott is stating an impressive
case to remain the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.Hes off to quite
the start in his NFL career after taking over following veteran Tony Romos
preseason back injury.Prescott threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and the
Cowboys forced four turnovers in a 30-16 win over the Green Bay Packers and
their dysfunctional offense Sunday.Prescott was 18 of 27 and shook off two
fumbles and an interception to lead the Cowboys (5-1) to their fifth straight
win.You just couldnt ask for more inspiration from a player because everybody on
this team knows what a difficult position that is to play, Cowboys owner Jerry
Jones said.Prescott showed poise in the fourth quarter while marching the
Cowboys on a seven-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown pass
to Cole Beasley for an 18-point lead with 10:26 left.Romo seems to be getting
closer to returning. After a bye, Dallas next plays on Oct. 30 against
Philadelphia.Asked if Prescott would remain the starter against the Eagles even
if Romo was ready, Jones only said, I wouldnt say unequivocally anything other
than we just beat the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay.Prescott picked on a
Packers secondary that played much of the game without their top three
cornerbacks because of injuries. His fourth-quarter touchdown pass left Packers
fans at Lambeau stunned. They were booing at times following another choppy game
for Green Bays offense. The four turnovers were a season high for Green Bay
(3-2).Frankly, the biggest thing on offense ... is turning the ball over, coach
Mike McCarthy said. Its not part of our fiber. The Packers had five fumbles on
the day, losing three.BOO BIRDSEven two- NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers wasnt
immune from the jeering. Rodgers finished 31 of 42 for a season-high 294
yards.Look, were upset, theyre upset, its part of it, Rodgers said of the
booing. Its not the first time. Probably wont be the last time. The Packers didnt
get into the end zone until Rodgers and Cobb connected on a 6-yard touchdown
pass with 6:53 left to get within 27-16.Rodgers accounted for two turnovers with
an interception to go with a fumble on first-and-goal at the Cowboys 1 with 1:10
left in the third quarter. It was a designed draw play out of an empty
backfield.RECORD STREAK OVERPrescott threw the first interception of his career
afteer he was picked off on third-and-8 from the Dallas 6, throwing out of his
end zone with 20 seconds left in third quarter.dddddddddddd Safety Morgan
Burnett had the diving interception.Prescotts NFL record streak for a
quarterback at the start of his career without an interception ended at 176 pass
attempts. He broke the mark of 162 previously held by New Englands Tom Brady
earlier in the game.We get that out of the way now, Prescott said with a laugh.
Another one to start up.OUT OF SYNCDrops were a problem again at times for
Packers receivers. Timing may have been off on a couple other throws.Rodgers and
McCarthy said the Packers would figure out the problems after watching the
film. Were hard on ourselves, and Im as hard as anybody on myself. So Im going to
get it fixed. Just been a little bit off, Rodgers said.It was Green Bays worst
defeat at home with Rodgers as the starting quarterback since a 37-20 loss to
the Giants in the 2011 NFC divisional playoffs.STRENGTH VS. STRENGTHDallas
dented Green Bays league-best run defense. The Cowboys rushed for 93 yards in the
first half against the Packers, which was already a season high against Green
Bay. The Packers had been allowing 42.8 yards per game entering Sunday.Dallas
was averaging a league-best 155.2 yards per game.Rookie Ezekiel Elliott finished
with 157 yards on 28 carries, giving him 703 yards rushing -- the second-most in
a players first six career games, behind only Eric Dickerson (787). Elliott also
became the only rookie to rush for at least 130 yards in four consecutive
games.INJURY REPORTCowboys: CB Morris Claiborne left with a concussion after
getting hurt in the second quarter.Packers: The Packers thin secondary, which
was already without CBs Sam Shields (concussion) and Quinten Rollins (groin),
lost cornerback Damarious Randall in the second quarter after he re-aggravated a
groin injury. ... WR Davante Adams left in the third quarter to be evaluated for
a concussion. ... RT Bryan Bulaga left late with a back injury.UP NEXTCowboys:
Host the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 30 after a bye next week.Packers: Host the
