导出博客文章ISTANBUL -- Turkey declared a national day of mourning and paid tribute to the
dead Sunday after two bombings in Istanbul killed 38 people and wounded 155
others near a soccer stadium. The carnage was claimed by a Turkey-based Kurdish
militant group. The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, or TAK, said two of its members
had sacrificed their lives in the Saturday night attack that targeted security
forces outside the Besiktas stadium shortly after the conclusion of a match. Two
of our comrades were heroically martyred in the attack, according to a statement
posted on TAKs website. It described the blasts as reprisal for state violence in
the southeast and the ongoing imprisonment of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the
Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK. TAK is considered by authorities as a PKK
offshoot. The twin car-and-suicide bombings near the stadium enraged top
officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who vowed to hunt down the
perpetrators. The attack was the latest large-scale assault to traumatize a
nation confronting an array of security threats.Turkey is a NATO member and a
partner in the U.S.-led war against the Islamic State group. The attack targeted
police officers, killing 30 of them along with seven civilians and an
unidentified person, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told reporters. He
said 13 people had been arrested in connection with the terrorist act.In an
address at a funeral for the slain police officers before TAKs statement was
released, a furious Soylu condemned Kurdish rebels and their allies in the West,
referring to the PKK as animals.Have you accomplished anything beyond being the
servants, pawns and hit men of certain dark forces, of your dark Western
partners? he asked.Turkish officials didnt make any further comments after the
TAK claim of responsibility was posted. The battle between the PKK and the
Turkish state has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of citizens.
Turkish officials frequently accuse the West of supporting the Kurdish
insurgency and of interfering in Ankaras fight against the militants.Erdogan
vowed his country would fight the curse of terrorism till the end after paying a
visit to some of the wounded at Haseki Hospital in Istanbul.Hundreds of
flag-carrying demonstrators marched along Istanbuls coastline toward the stadium
at the heart of the blast area. Flags flew at half-staff across the country and
at Turkeys foreign missions. Passers-by placed flowers on barriers surrounding
the soccer stadium. The first and larger explosion took place about 10:30 p.m.
Saturday after Besiktas beat Bursaspor 2-1 in the Turkish Super League. Erdogan
said the attacks timing aimed to maximize the loss of life, but most fans had
left before the detonation.Soylu said the first blast was caused by a passing
vehicle that detonated in an area where police special forces were located at
the stadium exit. A riot police bus appears to have been the target. Moments
later, a person who had been stopped in nearby Macka Park committed suicide by
triggering explosives, according to the minister. He said 136 people remained
hospitalized Sunday after the attack, including 14 in intensive care.TAK claimed
the Turkish people werent their target but warned no one should expect a
comfortable life as long as the ruling party continues to torture the mothers of
Kurdistan every day.Armed conflict between the Turkish state and Kurdish
militants resumed in July 2015 after peace talks unraveled. While much of the
violence has concentrated in the impoverished and pre-dominantly Kurdish
southeast, it has also spread to other cities, including the capital, Ankara,
where TAK has claimed February and March suicide bombings.Experts have
determined that up to 400 kilograms (880 pounds) of explosives were used in the
car bomb, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus told CNN Turk.To the mournful
sound of trumpets, funeral services were held at Istanbuls police headquarters
for some of the slain officers. Their comrades solemnly carried the coffins,
which were draped in the Turkish flag, as a sea of mourners wept around
them.Erdogan presided over a security meeting after the funeral ceremony and
hospital visit.Soccer fans proved their resilience by showing up to watch a game
pitting Istanbuls Galatasaray and Gaziantepspor at a different stadium. What
happened last night was extremely saddening but they need to know that Turkish
people will not yield to such things, Galatasaray supporter Erkan Duman told The
Associated Press. Its not like we will give up things, especially things we
love, just because they want us to.Turkey has witnessed a spate of IS and
Kurdish-linked attacks this year. Saturdays bombings were one of the bloodiest
to hit Istanbul, a city at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, until recently a
popular tourist destination. That changed after a series of IS-linked suicide
bombings targeting tourists, including a sophisticated attack on the citys
Ataturk Airport in June that killed 44 people and wounded scores of others.
PKK-linked militants have claimed other deadly attacks in Ankara, Istanbul and
areas in southeast Turkey.A state of emergency is in force following a failed
July 15 coup attempt and the resulting government crackdown on alleged coup
sympathizers has landed thousands in jail and forced tens of thousands of people
from their jobs. Critics call the move a witch hunt.---Cinar Kiper, Ayse Wieting

. There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the
contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many
more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named,
and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20
or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me.

no doubt that Team USA will miss the services of rugged Tampa Bay Lightning
forward Ryan Callahan, who will sit out Septembers World Cup of Hockey after
undergoing surgery to repair a labral tear in his right hip.Callahan is a
two-time U.S. Olympian who epitomizes the kind of hard-nosed, glue guy the U.S.
selection committee was looking for when it assembled the 23-man roster that
will try to wrest international hockey dominance away from Canada and outlast
the six other teams taking part in the tournament. But the immediate question is:
Who will take his place on the roster? The choice will be closely watched by
hockey observers for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is to see if
general manager Dean Lombardi and his management team -- which includes former
Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren, Calgary Flames president Brian Burke (who
was the GM of the U.S. team that won an Olympic silver in Vancouver in 2010) and
longtime USA Hockey executive Jim Johannson -- will hold to the pattern of
naming a roster very much blue collar in nature. In selecting gritty guys such
as?Justin Abdelkader, Brandon Dubinsky, Erik Johnson, Jack Johnson and Callahan,
Team USA excluded higher-skilled players like Kevin Shattenkirk, Justin Faulk,
Tyler Johnson and, of course, Phil Kessel, another two-time U.S. Olympian. So who
will take Callahans place? A decision on a replacement may not come until
August, but heres an early look at the top four candidates.Phil Kessel,
Pittsburgh PenguinsLets start with the sniper who led the Penguins in both
playoff points ( 22) and goals (10) during their Stanley Cup championship run.
Kessel was a surprise snub by the U.S. team, but will his playoff performance --
which included a somewhat surprising attention to defensive detail under
Penguins coach Mike Sullivan -- be enough to open the door to a replacement
roster spot? Its hard to assess this one. Kessel has connections to most of the
coaching staff, which includes head coach John Tortorella, an assistant in
Vancouver in 2010; Scott Gordon, who was an assistant coach in Toronto when
Kessel was a with the Maple Leafs; and, of course, Sullivan. Kessel, like
Callahan, is a right-handed shot, but if he wasnt part of the plan in March when
the initial 16 players were named and still wasnt in the mix when the final
seven players were named less than a month ago, our guess is its not going to
happen for Kessel.Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay LightningNo, Johnson is not a winger.
But I was surprised when Johnson wasnt named to Team USA given how hee has
proved himself to be a big-game performer.dddddddddddd Perhaps it was because of
the lingering injury issues that dogged Johnson throughout the regular season
after a stellar turn during the Lightnings run to the 2015 Stanley Cup finals.
But during the 2016 playoffs, Johnson was once again a gamer, contributing 17
points in 17 games for Tampa Bay -- including three game-winners -- as the
Lightning, sans captain Steven Stamkos, advanced to the Eastern Conference
finals before falling to Pittsburgh in seven games. You can never have enough
centers, and adding Johnson would allow Tortorella to move Joe Pavelski to the
wing, where the San Jose Sharks captain played for most of the season. My guess
is that Lombardi et al already have considered this and are comfortable with
their depth down the middle, which includes Pavelski, Ryan Kesler, Derek Stepan,
David Backes and Dubinsky -- and thus there will not be room for Johnson.Kyle
Okposo, New York IslandersOkposo is about to hit the market as an unrestricted
free agent and, for my money, is the second-most important free agent available
after Stamkos (assuming that Stamkos does indeed go to market). Okposo is a big
right-handed shot who has the skill set to play among the top nine for Team USA
and enough sand and grit to fit in with the identity that Lombardi wants this
team to embrace. He also has quiet leadership abilities and has earned high
praise in that regard from longtime friend and teammate John Tavares, the
Islanders captain. I spoke with Okposo at midseason about the potential of
playing on Team USA and it was clear that he yearns for the opportunity. No
question, he would be a highly motivated player if the U.S. management group
decides to offer him an invite. I wouldnt be surprised if this is the direction
management goes.Kyle Palmieri, New Jersey DevilsIf Team USA is looking for
versatility -- and that seems to be a requirement, given the roster as its
constituted -- Palmieri would be an excellent fit. Among U.S.-born players
available to Team USA (i.e. not counting the young guns selected for Team North
America), Palmieris 30 goals were tied for third behind Patrick Kane and
Pavelski. The 25-year-old can kill penalties. He can play anywhere in the four
forward groups and is considered a strong dressing-room presence. If its not
Okposo, I would have to consider Palmieri as the next most likely candidate to
    replace Callahan. Cheap Jerseys China
