SEATTLE -- You again? When the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners take the field for the first game of a three-game series Monday afternoon, it will mark the fourth time in just over a week that the two American League West rivals have squared off. Whats pretty clear is which team owns the other. The Rangers (82-55) completed a three-game sweep over Seattle last week and improved to 11-4 against the Mariners this season. Any grain of hope Seattle carried into the series in terms of the AL West race was extinguished by the time Texas hammered the final nail with a 14-1 win last Wednesday.Along the way, Texas continued to frustrate Mariners ace Felix Hernandez, who gave up a costly grand slam in that game to fall to 0-2 with a 6.30 ERA against the Rangers this season. Hernandez, who will be back on the mound for Seattle on Monday, is now 17-23 with a 3.85 ERA in career matchups against Texas. After his latest outing, a frustrated Hernandez told reporters: It wasnt good. I was terrible, on my part. I should have gone out there and stepped my level up, but I made a lot of mistakes. The latest sweep not only knocked Seattle (69-67) out of any kind of pennant contention, it also dealt a significant blow to the Mariners chances of winning a wild card.Nobody is happy, manager Scott Servais said after the 14-1 loss. Were really disappointed. But theres nothing we can do about it. These games are over. We have to put it behind us and look forward. The Mariners will get another shot at Texas this week, beginning with Monday afternoons game at Safeco Field. Theyll face a Rangers team that had won seven in a row before dropping the finale of the Houston series 7-6 on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Rangers took control of the AL West during another series win. Were feeling good for sure, Elvis Andrus said Sunday. Were in the drivers seat right now. We have to continue to play hard. We cant take anything for granted. Theres a lot of baseball ahead and we have to keep grinding. The Rangers plan to send lefty Cole Hamels to the mound Monday, and he might be just as motivated as Hernandez to atone for his last start. The Mariners touched up Hamels for six runs off seven hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings his last time out, although the veteran southpaw was able to come away with a no-decision when Texas came back to win 8-7.That game marked the first time since July 8 that Hamels allowed more than two earned runs in a game, and it came after two previous starts against Seattle that had resulted in a 2-0 record and a 1.93 ERA.Seattles Hernandez was originally scheduled to start Tuesdays game, but the team moved him up a day to accommodate hurting left-hander James Paxton. A torn fingernail suffered in his last start has bothered Paxton, so the team decided to give him an extra day off. Last Thursdays off day allowed Hernandez to move up a day and still stay on four days rest. Wholesale Yeezy Shoes . PHOENIX -- Anthony DeSclafani was in uncharted territory pitching in the ninth inning Saturday night, and he responded by going into attack mode.DeSclafani threw a four-hitter and Scott Schebler homered twice to lift the Cincinnati Reds over the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-0 on Saturday night.DeSclafani (8-2) had nine strikeouts and a walk, needing 108 pitches to throw the first complete game of his career. Hed never thrown a pitch in the ninth as a starter. In the ninth inning, you dont want to beat around the bush, he said. You just attack. I felt like I got that last out and I was still so focused, I didnt even realize it happened because I was so locked in.Joey Votto and Schebler homered during a four-run first inning and Schebler homered again during a five-run second, all against Zack Godley (4-3).Every pitch I threw, they hit. Chalk it up to a bad game, Godley said. I didnt let my defense do what they are out there for. I gave up too many fly balls and a couple of them went over the fence.Schebler had a career-high five RBI and three hits in the first multihomer game of his career.Zack Cozart hit his 16th homer in the fourth inning and Adam Duvall got his 29th homer in the eighth, both solo shots.DeSclafani has been outstanding since beginning the season on the disabled list with an oblique injury. He made his first start June 10 and began the year 6-0, and his ERA after Saturdays gem is 2.96. He twice went eight innings earlier this season. The ninth inning and him (DeSclafani) closing it out was great, Reds manager Bryan Price said. We didnt need him to do that, but it was a great opportunity for him to throw his first complete game and his first shutout. It was one of those things where you need to be rewarded for a job well done, Price added.Brandon Phillips went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Cincinnati.ddddddddddddDiamondbacks reliever Vicente Campos made his major league debut and allowed two runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. All my career I have been a starter, so it is not really a big deal going more than five innings, Campos said through an interpreter.Stars for both teams were subbed out long before the game ended. Votto and the Diamondbacks Paul Goldschmidt each played six innings.ALUMNI ACTIONThe Diamondbacks held their annual alumni game earlier Saturday between former players wearing throwback red and purple jerseys.
