导出博客文章MANCHESTER, England -- After categorically stating that Wayne Rooney is not for
sale, new Manchester United manager David Moyes was less forthcoming Friday
about what the striker plans to do ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Rooneys future has been mired in uncertainty since he told Alex Ferguson that he
wanted a transfer before the managers surprise retirement in May. The
27-year-old Rooney had grown frustrated at being dropped and substituted in key
matches as Robin van Persie emerged as Uniteds leading striker on the charge to
a record-extending 20th English title. But with two years remaining on Rooneys
contract, United doesnt appear willing to allow the Moyes era to begin with a
leading player joining a rival club. "Wayne is not for sale," Moyes said at his
first news conference since replacing Ferguson. "Hes a Manchester United player
and he will remain a Manchester United player." When asked if Rooney had told
him categorically that he no longer wanted to leave, Moyes responded evasively:
"I can tell you categorically Wayne Rooney is training fantastically well in the
last two days, thats all I can categorically tell you." Rooney is yet to
publicly discuss his push to leave United, which was first revealed by Ferguson,
opting not to address the issue among his many tweets over the summer or when
interviewed during Uniteds Premier League trophy parade in May. Moyes was
Everton manager when Rooney was reluctantly sold to Fergusons United in 2004.
The pair appear to be back on good terms despite Moyes launching successful
legal action against Rooney about allegations in the players autobiography about
his Everton departure. "I have known Wayne since he was 16 and some of you were
probably at my early press conferences at Everton -- its a little bit of deja vu
actually, its a similar sort of feeling," Moyes said from Old Trafford. "But Ive
had several meetings with Wayne. He is training brilliantly well, hes come back
in good shape (from the summer break) and I really look forward to working with
him." Its less certain how willing the United fans would be to embrace Rooney
again. Rooney asked to quit United in 2010, but backed down after negotiating a
new and improved contract with the club. Moyes appears willing to disregard what
Rooney told Ferguson before the 71-year-old Scotsman retired after more than 26
years in charge at United. "We have spoken several times and as far as I see it,
whatever happened before with Wayne has gone -- we are working together," Moyes
said. "I see a glint in his eye. He looks happy. I think he looks as if hes
saying, Im going to knuckle down and get myself right." Moyes repeatedly
highlighted how Rooney, with 197 goals for United, can catch Bobby Charltons
club-record 249 and Denis Laws 237. The first target is reaching Jack Rowleys
211 goals. "It isnt too difficult to get the goals, and if he can do that he
will be seen in the same light as many of those people," Moyes said. "Im more
than happy to work with him and make sure we get success. We are working and we
are trying everything we can to make sure we can to get Wayne to the level we
think (he can reach)." Rooney will also be keen to retain his starting spot in
the England team as World Cup qualifying enters its final stages. "Its for
everyones benefit we will try to get him to the (good) condition and that state
where hes much more like the Wayne Rooney we all know and I am looking forward
to making that happen," Moyes said. Captain Nemanja Vidic remains in the dark
about Rooneys grievances. "I havent really talked to him about him or his
future, but what I can see is that Wayne trained really well in the last few
days," Vidic said alongside Moyes. "He is in very good shape, I think hes the
best shape in the last five years and I am looking forward to seeing him play
for the club and doing his best."

Gailey realizes theres plenty of blame to go around when it comes to the
problems with the New York Jets offense. He also knows its his job to solve them.
From the quarterback to the running game to the offensive line. Its just not all
fitting together, the offensive coordinator said Thursday. Weve got one little
thing here, one little thing there, but those little things tend to add up. Its
just not clicking yet and weve just got to keep getting everybody on the same
page. That goes back to me making sure everybody gets on the same page. The
struggling Jets are turning to a new chapter as far as their quarterback goes,
with Todd Bowles making the switch from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Geno Smith. The move
came Wednesday with New York mired in a four-game losing streak and Fitzpatrick
having thrown an NFL-leading 11 interceptions and just five touchdowns in a 1-5
start. The way that we played on offense the last four weeks, something had to
change, Fitzpatrick said, so I guess I was the change.New York ranks 26th in
overall offense and last in the NFL in scoring with 15.8 points per game and
red-zone offense with eight TDs in 22 trips inside opponents 20-yard line (36.4
percent). If it was one area, you could fix one area, but unfortunately, weve got
too many areas that are not executing in the way that I think were capable,
Gailey said. Its my responsibility to get them to go out there and execute
better. Thats where we are right now.The Jets have scored just seven total
second-half points over the last four games, and that TD came on a 42-yard
fumble recovery by Charone Peake after Fitzpatrick was sacked late in the fourth
quarter of a 27-17 loss to Seattle in Week 4.Its a far cry from last season,
when the Jets set franchise marks with 5,925 yards of total offense, 4,057 yards
passing and 362 passes completed. Fitzpatrick threw a team-record 31 touchdown
passes, and Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker combined for 26 TD catches, the
most in the NFL.Its not one thing, Gailey said. Were not doing the things that
we need to do that we did last year that were capable of, in my opinion. Were
not getting them done. Theres no excuses.Fitzpatrick was done in by making
mistakes at inopportune times, with his six-interception performance at Kansas
City in Week 3 the start of the struggles.Decker is done for the season with a
shooulder injury, and added hip surgery on top of it.dddddddddddd So, the
receiving corps includes three rookies in Peake, Jalin Marshall and Robby
Anderson -- all trying to help fill the void.Matt Forte got off to a terrific
start with 196 yards and three touchdowns in his first two games, but has just
164 yards and no TDs in the four games since. Thats caused some doubts as to
whether the 30-year-old running back has much of anything left. It also has
raised concerns about the run blocking, which has the Jets sitting at 21st in
the league with 92.5 yards per game.We did it last year, and I think we can get
back to it, said Gailey, whose rushing offense ranked 10th in his first season
with the Jets. For now, the quick fix is at quarterback, and Smith steps in as a
starter for the first time since the season finale at Miami in 2014, when he
threw for 358 yards and three TDs with a perfect 158.3 passer rating.Smith was
on his way last summer to remaining the starter until then-teammate Ikemefuna
Enemkpali threw a punch during a locker-room dispute that broke his jaw --
opening the door for Fitzpatrick to have one of the best statistical seasons in
team history.Other than mop-up duty in two games since, including last Monday
night at Arizona , Smith has had to sit and wait during the last 14 months --
sometimes getting antsy -- for this type of opportunity.I think hes learned a
lot more football, Gailey said. I think he understands a lot more of whats
happening in the game, in general: what defenses are trying to do, how we need
to try to beat them, what were thinking. I do think hes come a long way in that
respect. I think hes a lot better.Gailey insisted he fully supported Bowles
decision to sit Fitzpatrick, despite the fact he and the quarterback have a long
history that dates to their days together in Buffalo. Hes only concerned now
with getting Smith up to speed and having him help solve the woes that have
plagued the Jets offense.I think all of us have a lot of confidence in him,
Gailey said of Smith. He wouldnt be in this position if we didnt. Hes got a lot
of talent. He hasnt had a chance to do it for us yet, so Im excited to watch him
    play.---AP NFL websites: and ' ' '
