LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The former French judge heading an IOC investigation into Russian doping stepped down on Tuesday, three days before the release of a new report into systematic cheating at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.Guy Canivet, a former judge of the Constitutional Court, resigned purely for personal reasons, the International Olympic Committee said.Canivet leaves as vice chairman of the IOC ethics commission and as chairman of the inquiry commission looking into evidence of state-backed Russian doping, a position he began in July.Canivet will be replaced as head of the IOC inquiry panel by former Swiss president Samuel Schmid, who is also a member of the IOC ethics commission.IOC spokesman Mark Adams said the change should not hamper or slow down the investigation.Mr. Canivet has strong personal reasons for resigning, Adams said. The succession and handover has been assured and I dont see any particular delay.Canivets resignation precedes Fridays publication of the latest report by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren into alleged state-sponsored Russian doping. The Canadian lawyers first report, issued in July, led WADA to recommend Russias exclusion from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The IOC rejected the call, instead allowing international federations to decide which Russians could compete.Fridays report is expected to focus on evidence of organized Russian doping centered on the Sochi Games, including allegations that tainted samples of Russian athletes -- including medalists -- were swapped for clean ones through a concealed hole in the wall of the drug-testing lab.Adams said the IOC has not been given any access to McLarens report ahead of Fridays release at a news conference in London.Without knowing the contents, the IOC executive board is expected to issue a statement this week setting out how it will deal with the new findings -- including the possibility of stiff sanctions ahead of the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The report will be sent to two IOC inquiry commissions. Canivets panel has been looking into the Russian system as a whole, while Swiss member Denis Oswald leads a commission focusing on the Sochi doping samples. It will be done in a timely fashion that will work for Pyeongchang, Adams said.IOC President Thomas Bach said last month that once the investigations and hearings are completed, the IOC will take the necessary measures and all the sanctions because if only part of this would be true, it would be an unprecedented attack on the integrity on the Olympic Games and on the Olympic competitions. COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Missouri Tigers were a bit short-handed for the start of preseason camp Thursday after defensive linemen Walter Brady and Harold Brantley were dismissed from the team.Brady, a freshman All-America last season, was kicked off for violating undisclosed team policies. He made nine starts last season and tied for the team lead with seven sacks, plus led Southeastern Conference freshmen with 12 1/2 combined sacks and tackles for loss.Brantley, a senior, was dismissed for failure to live up to academic expectations. He missed all of last season after suffering multiple injuries in an auto accident.Neither players name was listed on the team roster heading into the first workout Thursday.Everybody in our program, I want to have an opportunity to provide them the chance to be successful, Odom said. Im excited about the guys weve got out here today. I wish Harold and Walter nothing but the best. Theyve done a good job in their time at Missouri and I wish them nothing but the best. The defensive line is a team strength, with five others returning with starting experience, including defensive end Charles Harris, who has topped several preseason award watch lists following a breakout sophomore season.New defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross believes the depth of the defensive line will fill the void of the loss of Brady and Brantley. Its hard to replace that kind of talent with one guy, but weve just got to do it by committee, Cross said. Its just an opportunity for those guys to step into a starting role, and were going to let them battle it out and see who comes out on top.ddddddddddddOdom also announced Thursday that offensive lineman Nate Crawford is no longer with the team, citing medical reasons.Nate went through a couple of different back procedures...he had made some progress, but to get back and for him, long term, its best that hes medically retired.Crawford, a junior, made eight starts in 2015, making him the most experienced returning lineman.Offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said the team was preparing for this decision. The writing on the wall as the summer came on. Its not something that happened here the first day of training camp. Weve counted on that here, and weve got some good young guys in our program that are going to have to develop quickly to give us the depth that youre obviously going to need in this conference.Additionally, Odom confirmed that defensive lineman Terry Beckner Jr. is in full pads for practice after a torn ACL and MCL cut his freshman season short. He had 8 1/2 tackles-for-loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery in 10 games.Contrary to recent years, no team captains were announced the first day. Were going to do that a little bit different than maybe has been done here, Odom said. I want to see how our leadership continues to develop over the next few weeks. I expect a great team full of leaders. ' ' '
