MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- An hour after the game, Jay Ajayi returned to the field, basking in a newfound spotlight even as he stood in gathering shadows. There were handshakes, hugs, interviews and photos with fans, and his grin grew wider when he took a selfie, capturing a moment he could not quite believe. Its crazy to imagine its happening so fast like this, Ajayi said.Hes becoming a household name even before fans learn how to pronounce it. Ajayi (uh-JYE) tied a league record by surpassing 200 yards rushing for the second game in a row Sunday, helping the Miami Dolphins rally past the Buffalo Bills 28-25.Led by Ajayi, the Dolphins (3-4) have run their way back to relevance with consecutive wins they can savor during an upcoming bye week. The Bills (4-3) must regroup from their first loss in five games, and injuries to three top players. Here are things to know about the twist in the AFC East race:NEW WEAPON: Ajayi rushed for 214 yards in 29 carries after totaling 204 yards a week earlier in a win over Pittsburgh, giving Miamis long-sputtering offense welcome spark.Adam Gase came to the Dolphins with a reputation as a quarterback guru, but the first-year coach is learning he can win with the run -- and Ajayi.I keep reminding myself to stay with him, because he seems to find the right hole and pops it, and it becomes a 10- or 12-yard gain, Gase said. Thats my biggest challenge -- just staying with it. Sometimes its easier to start throwing it around, because the yards come quicker, but staying with him and letting him get into a rhythm is really critical for us.Ajayi tied the record for consecutive 200-yard games held by O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams. Its a remarkable breakout by the second-year pro from Boise State, who ran for 187 yards as a rookie and totaled 117 in Miamis first five games this year.DIRTY HIT?: Aaron Williams was hurt and Jarvis Landrys reputation took a hit as a result of the days most violent collision .A block by Dolphins receiver Landry caused Williams to miss the second half with a head and neck injury. The Bills safety went to a hospital for an MRI before flying back to Buffalo with the team.Williams missed most of last season because of a neck injury that required surgery and threatened his career. Landry said he apologized to Williams and wished he could take the block back. Was it dirty?Call it what you want, Landry said. Its football.OTHER INJURIES: Bills running back LeSean McCoy left in the third quarter after he aggravated a left hamstring injury, and he totaled only 11 yards in eight carries. The injury is especially worrisome because McCoy was plagued by trouble with the same hamstring last season. But hes optimistic he wont miss any more playing time. Its not one of those major issues like last year when I was in deep, deep pain, McCoy said. This is something that just takes time. I think a full week of practicing and taking my steps, and it should be fine.Receiver Marquise Goodwin was hurt on an incompletion late in the game and went into the concussion protocol. The Bills were already without injured wideouts Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods.Dolphins safety Isa Abdul-Quddus suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.SELF-INFLICTED: The Dolphins outgained Buffalo 454 yards to 267 but didnt take the lead for good until less than four minutes remained. One reason: 13 penalties for 116 yards.Dumb, Gase said. The things were doing right now are absolutely dumb.UP NEXT: The Dolphins have bye before facing the Jets on Nov. 6. It will be Miamis fourth consecutive home game, wrapping up an NFL-record 44-day homestand. The Bills play host to division leader New England on Sunday.---AP NFL website: and Steven Wine on Twitter: His work can be found at Yerry Mina Jersey ., for the next three years with the signings on Monday of Daryl Townsend and Michael Carter. Daniel Torres Colombia Jersey . "Trying to breathe," he said with a grin. Bernier stopped 42 of 43 shots on Monday night, including all 22 in a hectic middle frame, his heroic performance propelling the Leafs toward an undue point in their final game before the Christmas break. . The formidable trio of Canadian receivers -- individually known as Chris Getzlaf, Rob Bagg and Andy Fantuz -- will share the field at Mosaic Stadium one more time on Sunday. David Ospina Colombia Jersey . After a first half in which he thought "the lid was on the basket," the Toronto Raptors coach watched his squad mount a second half surge to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 98-91. Santiago Arias Colombia Jersey .Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have recalled forward Kevin Porter and defenceman Chad Ruhwedel from the minors as part of a five-player roster shuffle made by the NHLs worst team. RALEIGH, N.C. -- The attorney for a former North Carolina womens basketball academic counselor and faculty member who is accused by the NCAA of wrongdoing is pushing back against the charge -- and the investigative process itself.Randall Roden, who represents Jan Boxill, filed a 54-page response this week to an NCAA charge that Boxill provided improper academic assistance to athletes. That was one of five charges against UNC tied to its long-running academic fraud scandal. Rodens response included a letter to the NCAA complaining of an impossibly burdensome and fundamentally unfair process for gathering and reviewing evidence in the case.Namely, the response states, Boxill has consistently been denied access to the database of her own emails at the center of the charges. They just showed her [emails] that nobody could possibly remember -- it was 10 years old -- and she says, I dont know, it could be this, it might be that, Roden said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press.Well, they were satisfied. Thats all they needed to know. She sent the email, they jumped to a conclusion based on what it says on the email about what happened and shes never [been] given a fair opportunity to explain what it really was.The NCAA gives schools and individual parties named for violations 90 days to respond to charges outlined in a Notice of Allegations (NOA). Thats often tougher for individuals compared to a school working with compliance staffers and outside attorneys. That creates somewhat of a double burden, said Stu Brown, an Atlanta-based attorney who has worked with schools on infractions cases. It tends to necessitate the hiring of personal legal counsel and that can be extremely expensive when you think of just the number of documents and number of pages of things that have to be looked at just for somebody to get up to speed on the case. Both UNC and Boxill filed responses Monday and released them publicly Tuesday. The NCAA enforcement staff has 60 days to respond, which would eventually lead to a hearing with an infractions committee panel.Among its arguments, UNC stated its accredittation agency -- not the NCAA -- was the proper authority to handle issues related to irregular courses with significant athlete enrollments in the formerly named African and Afro-American Studies (AFAM) department.dddddddddddds for Boxill, the NOA cited 18 incidents between February 2003 and July 2010, such as making changes for athletes to use in papers, suggesting a course grade and providing an athlete with a completed quiz for one of Boxills courses. The former philosophy professor and faculty chairwoman retired in 2015 after UNC began taking steps to fire her following a 2014 outside investigation that detailed the AFAM irregularities.Roden said many of Boxills charges are due to email exchanges taken out of context. He said they had since cobbled together more details by talking to former students involved and sifting through thousands of emails released publicly through records requests. As an example, Roden said the quiz in question was a take-home assignment used to spur class discussion. A student emailed her answers to Boxill seeking help. Boxill spoke with her to explain the response didnt answer the posed question, and replied by email change it or fill in as you wish for the student to make her own changes, according to the response.Asked about the complaints in Boxills response, UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham said Tuesday the school has been very cooperative with the NCAA and anyone else who has asked.Weve been open and transparent in everything that we have done, Cunningham said. And Ill let her response speak for itself. But weve done everything we can, that we think is appropriate for the institution and those that we represent.Roden said Boxill focused on helping students be successful in life and graduate, not stay eligible to compete.Shes 77 years old. Shes not going to work for another NCAA-regulated institution, Roden said. So theres nothing they can do to her. This is about trying to clear her name. Thats why were doing this. ' ' '
