Panthers and Brandon Saad of the Chicago Blackhawks headline the NHL All-Rookie
Team which was announced on Saturday. Also named to the All-Rookie Team were
goaltender Jake Allen of the St. Louis Blues and defencemen Jonas Brodin of the
Minnesota Wild and Justin Schultz of the Edmonton Oilers. A fifth-round pick by
the Canadiens in the 2010 NHL Draft, Gallagher helped Montreal go from a
last-place finish in the Eastern Conference last season to a Northeast Division
title and the second seed in the conference. He played in 44 games, ranking
second among rookies with 15 goals and fourth with 28 points. Selected third
overall by the Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft, Huberdeau played in all 48 games
for Florida and ranked second both on the team and among NHL rookies with 31
points. Among first-year players, he finished third in goals, fourth in assists
and third in shots on goal (112). The 20-year-old Huberdeau set two franchise
records, becoming the first Panther to score on two penalty shots in one season
and recording the most points by a teenager in team history. A second-round pick
by the Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Draft, Saad led all rookies with a +17 rating,
including a +12 rating on the road, to help Chicago earn its second Presidents
Trophy in team history. He ranked fifth among rookies in each of the three major
    scoring categories -- goals (10), assists (17) and points (27). A second-round
pick by the Blues in the 2008 NHL Draft, Allen led rookie goaltenders in wins
(9), goals-against average (2.46) and save percentage (.905) while ranking
second in appearances (15) and minutes (803:53). He won eight of his first nine
decisions, including five straight March 7-16, and became the third netminder in
league history to win his first NHL start in Detroit. Selected 10th overall by
the Wild in the 2011 NHL Draft, Brodin compiled 11 points and a +3 rating in 45
games to help Minnesota clinch its first postseason berth since 2007-08. He led
all rookies in total time on ice (1,044:35) and average time on ice (23:12),
becoming just the eighth first-year skater in League history to average more
than 23:00 per game. After playing three seasons at the University of Wisconsin,
Schultz signed with the Oilers as a free agent and led first-year defencemen in
goals (8), assists (19) and points (27) in 48 games. The 22-year-old also paced
all rookies with 11 power-play assists and 15 power-play points, five more than
the next-closest player, and tied for first among freshmen skaters with three
    game-winning goals.

. This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the
amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that
so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their
assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season.

. Ivanovic was leading 7-5, 1-0 when Hantuchova
withdrew after falling 0-40 behind in the second game. The match started slowly
for Ivanovic, who surrendered her first two serves as Hantuchova took a 5-3
lead. Yannick Gingras drove Ariana G with complete confidence in the $600,000
Breeders Crown for 2-year-old filly trotters and the divisional leader did what
she does best -- win. There was an abundance of movement from the start of the
first of eight Breeders Crown races on the card. Cameron Hill was the first to
the front but soon saw Treviso take charge after the quarter in 27-4/5. That was
the cue for Thats All Moni to charge to the front at the half in 56-1/5.The
outer flow began to take shape as early leaver Sunshine Delight pulled
first-over and towed Chezatter, the favored Ariana G and Princess Aurora into
the race. Sunshine Delight applied serious pressure while uncovered by the 1:25
1/5 three quarter marker but looming behind was a clearly brimming with
confidence Gingras with Ariana G.As the field straightened away, Ariana G
lengthened her stride and blew by the field with relative ease. Fellow Jimmy
Takter stablemate Princess Aurora rallied nicely from almost last to be second
ahead of the game Sunnshine Delight.ddddddddddddLast week she was really grabby
and I believe I choked her, said Gingras, referring to shutting off the fillys
air. The credit goes to Jimmy. He made a lot of changes and it worked.Ariana G,
who is owned by breeders Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld, has now won nine of 11
career races and $773,967 in lifetime earnings. The daughter of Muscle
Hill-Cantab It All is a full sister to All The Time, who won this Crown event
last year as a 2-year-old.Im just very excited, said Katz. To have Aurora (also
owned and bred by Katz and Libfeld) come in second, it is just a testament to
the people that we work with. Its a long year for her. This is her last for the
year, said Takter. We decided, shes been racing since May, its a long year. Its
a great way to finish the year for her.?Ariana G, who paid $3.40 to win,
basically sewed up divisional honors with the victory. ' ' '
