导出博客文章GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 22 North Carolina vs. No. 18 Georgia, in Atlanta. Three
SEC-ACC matchups headline opening weekend, but the Tar Heels trip to Atlanta
stands out because its the only one of them in which the ACC team is
lower-ranked. North Carolina had a breakout 2015 season, reaching its first ACC
championship game after winning the Coastal Division, and the best way for the
Tar Heels to prove their staying power is by knocking off the Bulldogs in a de
facto road game and in Kirby Smarts debut as Georgia coach. We understand the
importance of it, UNC fifth-year coach Larry Fedora said.BEST MATCHUP: Clemson
offense vs. Auburn defense. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson looks to give his Heisman
Trophy candidacy a jump start when he faces an Auburn defense that
offensive-minded coach Gus Malzahn has said could be the best of his four-year
tenure at the school. That will be put to the test by Watson, the first player
in FBS history with 4,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in one season.
Auburn will rely on linemen Carl Lawson and Montravius Adams to contain Watson.
This group has a chance to be as good as we ever had on paper, Clemson coach
Dabo Swinney said.INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Eight current ACC players have rushed for
1,000 or more yards in a season. Thats by far the most in the league at one
time. The previous high of five was set in 2009 and matched five years later.
Seven of them did it last year, led by Florida States Dalvin Cook (1,691), while
Pittsburghs James Conner did it in 2014.LONG SHOT: Wake Forest is a 17-point
favorite against Tulane in a matchup of teams coming off consecutive 3-9
seasons. The Green Wave figure to debut a run-heavy system that new coach Willie
Fritzs Georgia Southern teams used to lead the Bowl Subdivision in rushing in
each of the past two years. If Tulane can control the ball and the clock, it
will give itself a chance to win.IMPACT PLAYER: Its guaranteed to be emotional
Saturday when Pittsburgh plays host to Villanova and Conner makes his return.
The 2014 ACC player of the year suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 2015
opener and then was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in November. Working out
through chemotherapy, and taking part in spring practice while wearing a
surgical mask, Conner was declared cancer-free in May. New offensive coordinator
Matt Canada, formerly at North Carolina State, has been tinkering with playing
multiple running backs in an effort to get Conner on the field.---Compiled by AP

. Louis Cardinals. Victorino is batting sixth and playing
right field after missing two games because of back tightness. Former Test
allrounder Andrew McDonald has been confirmed as Victorias new head coach, after
he announced during the week he was leaving his position in charge of
Leicestershire. The vacancy with Victoria opened up after David Saker was named
Australias new assistant coach in July, and McDonald soon became the leading
candidate. He was appointed head coach of the Melbourne Renegades - a position
that Saker had also held - earlier this month and Cricket Victoria has now
confirmed that McDonald will also take the state reins. The move continues a
rapid coaching rise for McDonald, 35, who less than two years ago was still
playing in the Sheffield Shield. Although he ended his career with South
Australia and also played four Tests during 2009, most of McDonalds career in
Australia was played with Victoria - he appeared in 71 first-class games for
them for 3516 runs at 40.88 and 163 wickets at 28.18.Over the past two years,
McDonald has been a popular coach of Leicestershire, lifting the performances of
the struggling county, and now he will take over a side sitting in a position of
strength in Australian cricket. Victoria have won the past two Sheffield Shield
titles, first under long-time coach Greg Shipperd in 2014-15, and then under his
replacement Saker in 2015-16.Im really pleased to be coming hhome to Victoria to
take on the coaching role with the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers, McDonald
said.dddddddddddd The state team is in a really good place on the back of
consecutive Shield victories and Im looking forward to building on that culture
of success and delivering results across all formats.Im a proud Victorian and
have been lucky enough to share some big wins playing cricket for this state. Im
excited about the challenges that are ahead of us and I look forward to working
with the coaching staff and the players led by Matthew Wade on the busy schedule
ahead.Tony Dodemaide, the Cricket Victoria CEO, said: Were delighted that Andrew
has agreed to return to Victoria after his time in charge with Leicestershire.
He brings a great enthusiasm and knowledge to the role and knows Victorian
cricket well which stands us in good stead ahead of the upcoming Sheffield
Shield season and Matador BBQs One Day Cup.The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers
have enjoyed terrific success in the last two years with our consecutive Shield
victories. Andrew - a former Shield winner himself - understands elite
performance environments and is looking to build on that success this season. '
