Wieters out of the game after the catcher took a hard foul ball off his mask in
    the fifth inning.That proved to be a game-changing decision.Wieters hit a
go-ahead, two-run homer off Jason Grilli in the eighth to lead the Orioles to a
5-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.Baltimore pulled within
three games of the first-place Blue Jays, who had a four-game winning streak
snapped. After losing the opener 5-1, the Orioles will look to gain more ground
in the series finale Wednesday. Its a big game, Wieters said. Were going to be
playing a lot of teams in the division, so there are going to be a lot of big
games. I think the key is to be able to enjoy this one and move on tomorrow.
Weve got to come back and win another one tomorrow.Michael Saunders drilled a
two-run shot off Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez that tied the game 3-3 in the
seventh. In the eighth, Jonathan Schoop walked and Wieters homered off Grilli
(4-2), his 12th of the season.Matt took a ball right in the kisser tonight and
Ive seen a lot of people come out of the game, Showalter said. We would have
taken him out of the game, mostly because he took one in the same place last
night.Brad Brach (8-2) picked up the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Zach
    Britton got his league-leading 39th save.Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ fell
short of tying Bostons Rick Porcello for the major league lead with 18 wins.
Happ allowed three runs and six hits with three strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.I
wasnt at my best tonight but this is an elite team, especially at home, Happ
said. Theyre tough. I think I made a couple mistakes; they made me pay. But we
battled them all night. I gave us what I had tonight, which wasnt a ton but it
was enough to keep us in the ballgame.Manny Machado hit his 34th homer of the
season and 100th of his career for Baltimore. Steve Pearce went deep for the
13th time this season.Baltimores Pedro Alvarez, who got a rare start against a
left-hander, managed two hits against Happ and is 6 for 12 in his career against
him.Jimenez started in place of the injured Chris Tillman and allowed three runs
and nine hits with three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. After first couple of
innings, Jimenez said, I was able to use my sinker a lot. It was really good,
everything was down, and we got a lot of guys hitting ground balls. The Blue Jays
took a 1-0 lead in the second on a two-out, RBI single by Kevin Pillar. Jimenez
then retired the next eight batters before allowing another single to Pillar in
the fifth.Pearce tied the game 1-1 with a homer in the bottom half of that
inning. Two batters later, Machado drove Happs 0-1 pitch over the wall in center
field for a two-run homer that gave Baltimore the lead.THE BIG TENThe Orioles
have three players -- Chris Davis, Machado and Mark Trumbo -- with at least 10
home runs in August. Its the first time in club history they accomplished that
feat.MOVESOrioles: RHP Logan Ondrusek and OF Julio Borbon were outrighted to
Double-A Bowie. Both players were designated for assignment over the weekend and
cleared waivers.TRAINERS ROOMOrioles: CF Adam Jones performed drills but was
held out of the lineup for the fourth consecutive game with a left hamstring
strain. ... Tillman (right shoulder bursitis) could potentially throw off a
mound this weekend. However, the original target dates of Sept. 9 or 10 for his
next start appear unlikely, Showalter said.UP NEXTBlue Jays: Aaron Sanchez
(12-2, 2.99 ERA) will be recalled from Class-A Dunedin to make the start. He
spent the past 10 days in the minors to limit his innings. Sanchez has gone 2-0
with a 4.50 ERA in three starts against Baltimore this season.Orioles: Yovani
Gallardo (4-6, 5.59 ERA) has lost his past three decisions. In his last outing
against the Yankees, he lasted just 1 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs and six
    hits.

. There are surprises among the Vezina candidates, but most
of the others are standard top-tier performers, even if the two Hart Trophy
runners-ups have never been quite as good as they have been through the first

. Uniteds eighth defeat of a wretched campaign means Liverpool, which currently
occupies the fourth and final Champions League place, could go nine points clear
of its fierce rival by beating West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Charlie Adam
scored both of Stokes goals at Britannia Stadium either side of Robin van
Persies equalizer, with a miserable day for seventh-place United capped by
first-half injuries to centre halves Jonny Evans and Phil Jones that forced them
    off.

. It was the kind of score that might make everyone else
wonder which course he was playing. Except that Graeme McDowell saw the whole
thing. Crouched behind the 10th green at Sheshan International, McDowell looked
over at the powerful American and said, "Ive probably seen 18 of the best drives
Ive seen all year in the last two days.

. The 18th player to shoot 60 on the tour, Jamieson settled
for par on the final hole when his 15-foot birdie chip grazed the edge of the
hole and stayed out. After opening with rounds of 66 and 73 to make the cut by a
stroke, he had 11 birdies in the bogey-free round. PITTSBURGH -- Vince Velasquez
didnt have his best stuff, the Philadelphia Phillies lost another player to
injury and the Pittsburgh Pirates got a big hit from the unlikeliest of
sources. The woes continued for the Phillies at PNC Park on Sunday, with
Philadelphia losing to Pittsburgh 5-4, dropping their three-game series two
games to one.The Phillies have now lost three consecutive series in Pittsburgh
with just one win in that span. Since PNC Park opened in 2001, they are 16-31 at
the home of their in-state rival.Diminutive Pirates rookie utilityman Adam
Frazier hit a pinch-hit home run off reliever Edubray Ramos in the seventh
inning to complete Pittsburghs come-from-behind victory. It was Fraziers first
major league home run and first time going deep since Sept. 5, when he was with
Double-A Altoona. But even before Fraziers improbable heroics, things werent
going well for the Phillies. Usually reliable starter Velasquez gave up four
runs while taking 107 pitches to get through six innings.Just looking at his
body language, he showed that he was struggling to find the strike zone, manager
Pete Mackanin said. He didnt have his best location. He did a good job; he just
made a couple bad pitches when they scored the two runs. Obviously, he wasnt at
his best, but he kept us in the game.In the sixth inning, Velasquez gave up a
double to Starling Marte on a 0-2 pitch that quickly sent things off the rails.
It was followed by a first-pitch, two-run home run by Matt Joyce that tied the
game.Thats just a matter of finishing at-bats, Velasquez said. Youve got to lock
in on 0-2 counts when youre ahead. Youve got to finish the at-bat. Knowing that
that was my last inning, thats where you have to bear down and give it all youve
got.The Pirates also scored a pair in the second inning. Marte led with a single
and Elias Diaz drove him in with a groundout to record his first career RBI.
Sean Rodriguez then drove in Joyce with a double to center.Philadelphias early
offense came on a pair of solo home runs from Odubel Herrera and Andres Blanco
that -- along with a two-run third inning -- helped the Phillies build a 4-2
lead. In the third, Velasquez singled off his mound opponent, Jameson Taillon,
and Cesar Hernandez drove him in with a triple off the wall in center
field.dddddddddddd Hernandez then came around to score on Herreras
groundout.Cesar came through for us, Mackanin said of the three-hit afternoon by
his second baseman. The home run by Herrera was nice to see. We just need to
score more runs.Fraziers home run made a winner of reliever Neftali Feliz (4-0).
Mark Melancon earned his 30th save. The game was delayed an hour and 32 minutes
by a thunderstorm in the bottom of the eighth inning.ANOTHER LOSSIn a series
that had already seen Maikel Franco and Cameron Rupp miss time after being hit
by pitches, Blanco was injured on a seemingly routine play in the fifth inning.
With Gregory Polanco attempting to steal third, Blanco took the throw from
catcher Carlos Ruiz and put the tag down, only to have Polanco land on his glove
as he slid. Blanco has a fractured left index finger that required four
stitches.Thats going to hurt us, Mackanin said. We always could rely on him to
play solid defense, come up with big hits. Anywhere we put him, he plays solid
defense. Hes just a great guy to have around.TRAINING ROOMPhillies: Franco
replaced Blanco at third base. It was his first action since being removed from
Fridays game after being hit by a pitch in his wrist. He went 1 for 2 at the
plate. ... C Rupp did not play as a precaution after being hit in the head with
a pitch Saturday. Concussion tests done Saturday night and before the game
Sunday were negative.Pirates: RHP Tyler Glasnow was placed on the 15-day
disabled list before the game with shoulder discomfort.UP NEXTPhillies: Jeremy
Hellickson (7-7, 3.84 ERA) will start a three-game set in Miami. In his last
seven starts, hes walked just seven batters and has a 0.98 WHIP while lowering
his ERA by half a run. The Phillies enter the series 9 1/2 games behind the
Marlins for the final NL Wild Card spot.Pirates: Francisco Liriano (6-9, 4.96
ERA) will begin a two-game series against the Seattle Mariners after an off day
Monday. The Pirates have rearranged their starting rotation to keep Liriano and
Gerrit Cole on as close to five days of rest as possible during a stretch where
    they have four days off in a three-week span. ' ' '
